Left Bank's Andy Harries will return as executive producer, producer Michael Casey and head of production Marigo Kehoe; Sky's Cameron Roach will executive produce. Michael J. PHOTOS: Faces of Fall TV 2013 The Cinemax version was inspired by the British version, Strike Back: Origins, which starred The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln and The Hobbit's Richard Armitage. Cinemax recently picked up the six-episode Origins for a stateside run that started Oct. 25. Strike Back was the first collaboration between Cinemax/HBO and Sky. The series was the cable network's first foray into original primetime scripted programming. The network now has originals Banshee (which will return for its second season in 2014) and Steven Soderbergh's Clive Owen original drama The Knick, also set for 2014. On the development side, Cinemax is prepping drama pilot Quarry. E-mail: Lesley.Goldberg@THR.comTwitter: @Snoodit

| http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/10/28/strike-back-renewed-final-season/'Strike Back' renewed for fourth (and final) season By Jeff Labrecque on Oct 28, 2013 at 10:26AM Strike Back, the Cinemax global action-thriller about two dashing and deadly members of an elite counterterrorism unit, is getting a fourth and final season. Cinemax/HBO, which co-produces the series with Left Bank and Sky, has ordered 10 new episodes that will premiere in 2014. Philip Winchester plays a steely British special-forces soldier and Sullivan Stapleton, who is the star of the upcoming 300 sequel, is the more renegade former U.S. Delta Force commando. In the season 3 finale, which aired Oct. 18, the duo prevented a major attack at a U.S. military base. Click below to see a sample of the type of hard-core action that the show has become famous for: This series, which began playing on Cinemax in 2011, was based on the 2010 Sky TV original that starred Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead) and Richard Armitage (The Hobbit). That earlier incarnation lasted just six episodes, in part because its leading men left to star in high-profile projects. But it’s currently being re-broadcast on Cinemax as Strike Back: Origins. Here’s how it all started: | |

(Liam Daniel / Cinemax / June 9, 2013) By Curt Wagner, @ShowPatrol RedEye 9:38 a.m. CDT, October 28, 2013 I've got some good news and some bad news, "Strike Back" fans. The action series will return for a fourth season in 2014, but it will be the show's final season. Cinemax announced the renewal Monday, adding that the 10-episode final season will film in Europe and, for the first time, in Asia, something co-executive producer, writer and director Michael J. Bassett hinted during San Diego Comic-Con. "We're going to go to Thailand," Bassett told me was on his wish-list. "I think we want to change the pallet and go to the East, go at a new enemy." Bassett will return, as well stars Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton will be back. Other casting news is yet to be announced. Cinemax currently is showing the original British season at 9 p.m. Fridays, calling it "Strike Back: Origins." Here's the full announcement from Cinemax: The hit action series STRIKE BACK will return to CINEMAX in 2014 for a fourth and final season of ten new episodes, which will shoot in Asia and Europe, it was announced today by Kary Antholis, president, HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming. CINEMAX/HBO will again produce the series with partners Left Bank and Sky, which will air the series in the U.K. Returning for season four will be Left Bank’s Andy Harries as executive producer, series producer Michael Casey and head of production Marigo Kehoe. Sky’s Cameron Roach will executive produce. Also returning are Michael J. Bassett as co-executive producer, writer and director and James Dormer as co-executive producer and writer. Returning cast and additional crew will be announced at later date. STRIKE BACK wrapped its third season on Oct. 18, and the entire season is now available on MaxGo and Max On Demand. New York’s Daily News said that season three returned “with a bigger bang than ever” and redeyechicago.com noted, “Every season ‘Strike Back’ raises the stakes,” while HitFix.com remarked that “the action scenes remain brutal and thrilling.” TV Guide said the series “blazed a new trail in hardcore pulp fiction,” the Huffington Post called it “well made and damn fun,” and craveonline.com said it is “still the gold standard for TV action.” Debuting in 2011, STRIKE BACK was the first collaboration between CINEMAX/HBO and Sky. The first season introduced an unlikely pair of operatives in the stealth counterterrorism unit Section 20: Sgt. Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester), an exceptional British Special Forces (SBS) soldier, and the less-conventional Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton), a former U.S. Delta Force member. In the third season, the team tracked terrorist Al-Zuhari and his conspirators from the jungles of Colombia to Beirut to Russia to Eastern Europe in order to stop a major attack on Western-allied targets. In addition to Philip Winchester (“Crusoe,” “Camelot” and “Undrafted”) and Sullivan Stapleton (“Animal Kingdom,” “Gangster Squad,” the upcoming “300: The Rise of an Empire”), season three stars of STRIKE BACK included Rhona Mitra (“Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”), Robson Green (“Wire in the Blood”), Michelle Lukes (“Alexander”) and Milauna Jackson (“Blood Done Sign My Name”). Season three guest stars included Dougray Scott (“Desperate Housewives”) and Zubin Varla (“Little Dorrit”).

The bad news: It'll be the final season of "Strike Back" adventures. For three seasons, a growing fanbase has followed the adventures of Sgt. Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester) and Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton), special-forces soldiers who track terrorists and carry out dangerous missions every week. The excellent third season recently ended, and Cinemax is currently airing "Strike Back: Origins," a prequel season starring Richard Armitage ("The Hobbit") and Andrew Lincoln ("The Walking Dead"). The fourth season will consist of 10 episodes and shoot in Asia and Europe, Cinemax said in a statement. Will Stapleton and Winchester be back for the last season? Let's hope so. Cinemax's press release noted that Michael J. Bassett and James Dormer, among other writers, directors and producers, will definitely be back. As for actors, the release said, "returning cast and additional crew will be announced at a later date."
