“Strike Back” star Philip Winchester has been cast as a seasoned baseball player in the indie movie “Undrafted.”

Details on the film, provided in a news release, are as follows:

Producers Eric Fischer and Brianna Johnson at Dead Fish Films and Joe Mazzello at Parlay Pictures have announced their impressive roster for the upcoming film, Undrafted, about life’s strikeouts and home runs. The all-star bench features Aaron Tveit (Les Miserables), Matt Barr (Hatfields & McCoys), Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford, Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf), Joe Mazzello (HBO’s The Pacific), Manny Montana (Graceland), Philip Winchester (Strike Back), with Billy Gardell (Mike & Molly), and James Belushi.

Written and directed by Mazzello, Undrafted tells the personal story of his brother’s experience as a star college baseball player, who, though scouted, was ultimately never drafted. Subsequently a meaningless intramural baseball game with his misfit teammates turns into the most important game of his life.

“I watched for 15 years as my brother worked tirelessly to make his dream come true only to see it never happen and it was heartbreaking,” says Mazzello. “During that time I saw the love he and his teammates had for each other and for the game that is the heart of our story.”

Mazzello is known for his work as an actor in such films as Jurassic Park, The River Wild, The Social Network, and HBO’s Emmy Award-winning miniseries The Pacific. Mazzello is a graduate of USC’s Film Production Program and this film marks his debut as both a writer and a director.

“This is a powerful story that will really resonate with anyone who’s ever had a dream, you don’t have to be a baseball fan to relate,” says producer Eric Fischer. “I was immediately drawn to it, as it was one of the most funny, heartfelt and touching scripts I had read in a long time, I believe it transcends the genre of a “baseball movie” and speaks to anyone who has ever struggled for a dream,” said Johnson.

For eight years, Fischer pitched in the Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins organizations before retiring and attending film school. Johnson is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU where she majored in drama. Upon her move to Los Angeles she started her theatre production company Tall Blonde Productions, which is most well known for their summer Shakespeare series, “Shakespeare in the Cemetery.” After meeting Fischer, the two formed Efish Entertainment, where they have been the lead producers of, or a key component to the production on, notable projects like 7 Below, starring Val Kilmer, Ving Rhames, Vehicle 19 with Paul Walker, Night Train to Lisbon, directed by Billie August and starring Jeremy Irons, Melanie Laurent, and Jack Huston. Fischer and Johnson are producing Undrafted under their Dead Fish Films label.

Currently shooting in Los Angeles, the film also marks the debut of Crawford as an executive producer. The film was privately funded.

Fans of TV series like "Strike Back," "Graceland," "Gossip Girl" and "Teen Wolf" can catch their favorite actors on the big screen sometime next year in the indie feature film "Undrafted."

The baseball film stars Philip Winchester of "Strike Back," Aaron Tveit and Manny Montana of "Graceland," Chace Crawford of "Gossip Girl," Tyler Hoechlin of "Teen Wolf," Billy Gardell of "Mike & Molly," as well as Matt Barr, who starred in "Hatfields and McCoys," and Jim Belushi, the former star of "According to Jim."

"Undrafted" is the directorial debut of Joe Mazzello, who starred in "The Pacific" on HBO and the film "The Social Network." Mazzello also wrote the screenplay for the film, which is based on his brother, who was a successful college baseball player and was scouted to play in the majors. When he wasn’t drafted, a intramural baseball game with his teammates became the most important game of his life.

He’s one of our favorite action heroes on Strike Back – but now Philip Winchester is taking on a very different role, as he’s landed a part in the independent feature film Undrafted.

Philip – who plays Michael Stonebridge in the Cinemax series – will appear as a baseball player in the flick, which is the directorial debut of actor Joe Mazzello (The Pacific, The Social Network).

Mazzello also penned the script, bringing to the screen the story of his brother, a successful college baseball player who – as the title implies – wasn’t drafted into the major leagues. Suddenly, an intramural baseball game with an eclectic roster of teammates turns out to mean far more than he ever expected.

The cast of Undrafted also includes Aaron Tveit (Graceland) in the starring role, with Manny Montana (Graceland), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf), Matt Barr (Hatfields & McCoys), and James Belushi.

The producers are Mazzello for Parlay Pictures and Eric Fischer – himself a former pitcher for the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins organizations – and Brianna Johnson for Dead Fish Films. Undrafted is currently shooting in Los Angeles.

An all-new Strike Back airs tomorrow at 10 PM ET/PT on Cinemax.
